Bulls Win First Dual Meet of the Season

The Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams opened up the dual meet season with wins over Duquesne on Friday night at Alumni Arena. After some good beginning of the season performances at the Western New York Invitational two weeks ago, the team was looking to improve with each upcoming competition.

The women won the meet by a score of 137.5 - 75.5. The meet began with a 1-2 finish in the 400 medley relay. UB went on to win 11 of the next 12 events including wins by Jordan Deren in the 500 free and 1000 free, Caroline Simmons in the 50 free, Alie Schirmers in the 200 IM, Caitlin Reilly in the 200 back, and Meili Carpenter on both 1-meter and 3-meter.

The men's meet came down to the final relay. With the score tied at 110, the Buffalo 400 free relay team of Simon Proudfoot, Jared Heine, Matt Hogan, and Chad Miller won convincingly with a time of 3:07.69. The relay victory clinched a 123-114 win for the Bulls. Other individual event winners from Buffalo include Matt Schwippert in the 200 fly, Zach Ruske in the 200 back, Colin Patrican on 1-meter, and Kenny Rhoades on 3-meter.
