Buffalo Swimmers & Divers Named to All-MAC Academic Team

Following a very successful season in the pool, six Buffalo swimmers and divers were named to the All-MAC Academic Team. The MAC honored 32 women and 18 men for their commitment to success in the classroom as well as their dedication in the pool. Consideration for this award is based on the following criteria: minimum of a 3.20 cumulative GPA, participation in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions, and athletic accomplishments during the current season. Freshmen are not eligible for the award.

Sam Palma, a senior from Lancaster, NY, has maintained a 3.85 GPA during her time at UB while majoring in history. She will graduate this May and will be attending graduate school at UB next fall. This marks the second time in her career that Sam has named to the All-MAC Academic Team.

Meili Carpenter, a senior from Boulder, CO, graduated with an undergraduate degree from UB last spring and is currently working towards a graduate degree in science education. Meili is one of 3 female athletes to be named to this team on 3 different occasions.

Andrew Tamchyna, a senior from Newmarket, Ontario, has maintained a 3.79 GPA as he pursues a degree in engineering physics. Andrew will be attending graduate school at the University of Missouri in the fall. He has also been named to the All-Mac Academic Team three times.

Chris Berloth, a sophomore from Ypsilanti, MI, has a 3.93 GPA and is working towards an undergraduate degree in English. This is the first time that Chris has been recognized by the MAC.

Jordan Matthews, a senior from Burnt Hills, NY, will be graduating in May with a degree in mechanical engineering. He has maintained a 3.75 GPA during his time at Buffalo and will be attending the University of Texas in the fall for graduate school.

Connor Vander Zalm, a senior from Kelowna, British Columbia, has maintained a 3.69 GPA and will complete his MBA from UB in the spring of 2011. Connor joins teammate Andrew Tamchyna as part of a select group of seniors who have been named to Academic All-MAC on 3 different occasions.
