Records Fall at Akron Invite



After the second day of competition, the Buffalo women stood in 3rd place while the men maintained a strong hold on 2nd place. The evening was filled with record breaking performance in almost every event, including the women's 200 medley relay which began the night. The relay team of Jessica Ballard, Brynn Marecki, Sam Palma, and Caroline Simmons broke the meet and pool record in a winning time of 1:44.92. Other outstanding performances on the women's side include Alie Schirmer's 2nd place finish in the 400 IM (4:31.73), Sam Palma's 3rd place finish in the 100 fly (56.61), Jordan Deren's 4th place finish in the 200 free (1:52.82), Caroline Simmons' 6th place finish in the 200 free (1:53.78), Brynn Marecki's win in the 100 breast (1:04.07), and Meili Carpenter's win in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 316.65.

The men were not to be outdone as they continued to make their presence known on day 2. The relay team of Matt Schwippert, Josh Meints, Cory Zorsch, and Chad Miller started the evening with a 3rd place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:34.03). Seniors Zach Ruske and Connor Vander Zalm finished 5th and 6th respectively in the 400 IM. Other impressive performances came from Cory Zorsch in the 100 fly (51.51; 8th place), Simon Proudfoot in the 200 free (1:43.94; 9th place), Josh Meints in the 100 breast (59.37; 9th place), and the backstroke combo of Andrew Tamchyna (51.35; 2nd place) and Matt Schwippert (51.62; 3rd) in the 100. On the diving boards, Kenny Rhoades and Colin Patrican finished 1st-2nd on 1-meter!
